This paperback historical fantasy novelette begins moments after Hitler commits suicide in his bunker and then follows him to his final judgment in the afterlife. The Last Way Station examines the Fuhrer's disturbing psyche and asks, "Can there be fitting punishment for the super evil?"
April 30th, 1945. The Red Army has encircled Berlin and is now cutting down opposition forces as it advances through the devastated streets of the Nazi capital toward the Reichstag, center of the German government. Thirty-five feet below ground zero, Adolf Hitler presses a loaded service pistol to his right temple and prepares to bite down on a glass cyanide capsule. Hitler has completed his Last Will and Testament, married and then murdered his new bride, Eva Braun, and dispatched his beloved German shepherd, Blondie. Now, all that remains is to effect his own escape and join them in the hereafter. He presses down on the cyanide capsule and squeezes the trigger. But instead of dissolving into oblivion, Hitler is transported to a dark, intensely cold chamber where a mysterious "caseworker" and final judgment await him. The Last Way Station explores Hitler's psyche and asks what, if anything, constitutes fitting punishment for the super-evil.
